Young ProLife Kelburne Mens 5s given a lesson in finishing

Glasgow Accies v ProLife Kelburne Mens 5s

Saturday 6th February 2016

After the long Winter break the young 5th eleven took to the field against a much more experienced Accies team. The 5s started very much on the front foot with Accies having to defend. The 5s had the majority of play and the first effort fell to Ciaran Willcox whose shot cannoned off the post and bounced clear. The 5s were dominating without being able to create many clear cut chances but, after about 20 minutes, they managed to win a Penalty Corner. After the initial shot the ball bounced about the area and the keeper pulled off a good save from Ciaran which bounced out to Craig Speirs. As Craig was about to shoot he was blocked which resulted in another penalty corner. From the Penalty Corner, Aaron Primroses strike was well saved by the Accies keeper. Although Accies had created a couple of half chances their first real chance came from a Penalty Corner with about 10 minutes left in the first half. Although the ball bounced past the stopper it was picked up just behind and fired into the box, stopped and rifled past Dougie McEwan in goals. From the restart Kelburne gave the ball away and on the subsequent attack Accies won another Penalty Corner. From this Accies scored at the back post with a reverse stick strike. This was very harsh on the young Kelburne squad.

The second half started with both teams pushing for the important next goal. Unfortunately it came for Accies who scored early on from their third Penalty Corner. Dougie managed to get his stick to the ball but it flew into the top left hand corner. Within 15 minutes the game was over as Accies scored their first goal from open play as they grew in confidence. The Kelburne youngsters kept working hard and began to create some half chances. But Accies got the final goal of the game from open play with about 10 minutes left. Young Jay Berry fired an excellent shot into the net with 5 minutes left but unfortunately he was just outside the area.
