Second Match Ends in Stalemate

On day 2 of the  Eurohockey Club Champions Trophy at Glasgow Green, Bromac Kelburne were held to a 1-1 draw by Swiss side Rottweiss Wettingen. The result now means that the Paisley side must beat Irish outfit Banbridge to progress to the final on Monday. The Irishmen soundly defeated HC Minsk 4-1.

The first half Kelburne was a very tight affair with Kelburne not able to break down a very well-drilled, street-smart Rottweiss team. Somewhat against the run of play the Swiss won a penalty corner which they duly dispatched (Nicolas Steffen) after two re-bounds to take an unlikely lead. Kelburne continued with their patient passing but weren't able to make the breakthrough before halftime.

As with the first game against Minsk Kelburne flew out of the blocks in the second half, immediately putting Wettingen under pressure and getting behind their defence in a way that was beyond them in the first half. This pressure quickly told as Lee Morton converted a Penalty Corner switch into the bottom corner to level the scores at 1-1.

The match then settled into a very even, back-and forth that produced few more clear-cut chances.

Today's game is a 4.45pm start against the Irish team Banbridge HC with a place in Monday's final at stake.
