Kelburne Ladies 2s v Clydesdale Western 5’s

17/9/2022 - 4.30pm

Kelburne L3s 3 - 1 Clydesdale Western 5’s

Scorers - Jen Morgan, Heather Young, Jen Owne

The ladies 2’s starter their season against Clydesdale Western 5’s with the late pushback at Titwood.

1st quarter:
This new-look Ladies 2s team didn't take long in getting used to playing together and there was some great interplay from Kelburne in the first quarter. Kelburne were dominant in attack with Mhairi MacPherson making some great forward runs putting the young Clydesdale team under pressure. Clydesdale did well to absorb the pressure, including some great play from their Goalie who was performing well. Eventually this dominance earned a well deserved goal, neatly slotted away by veteran midfielder Jen Morgan.
2nd Quarter:
Kelburne pressed from passback and started to attack down the left with great linkages between Alice Ferguson and Jen Owen. Again this strong offensive play put pressure on Clydesdale's defence and they responded by showing they were dangerous on the counterattack with their fast, skillful players. Good defending from Bella Martin and Becca Feeney ensured that these attacks came to nothing. However, fabulous attacking play down the right led to an inch perfect cross in front of goal that just needed the slightest touch to make it 2 - 0 but it wasn't to be. Kelburne had to wait until later in the quarter to be rewarded for all their attacking play when a pass across the goal found Heather Young on the backpost where she slotted the ball away to score her debut goal for the 2s.
3rd quarter:
Clydesdale came back into the game with a more organised and consistent period of attacking play, a loss of concentration and mix up in defence resulted in a goal for the home team. Kelburne didn't let their heads go down and slightly against the run of play they counterattacked with Jen Owen showing all of her pace to beat the defence and score Kelburne's 3rd goal.
4th quarter:
In the final quarter of the game play was fairly evenly matched in the centre of the park, but the consistency and tenacity of Kelburne's young midfielders including Esther Walker and Isla Christie ensured that Kelburne continued to threaten to score. Even with end-to-end play Kelburne proved to be the stronger, more dominant team and they continued making advances down the wing, they just couldn't get the clinical finish and 4th goal they deserved and so the game ended with a 3 - 1 victory to Kelburne Ladies 2s.
Next game: Glasgow Accies 2s on 8th October.
