Kelburne Mens' 4s vs 5s in Kelburne derby!

Saturday 16.11.19 was Derby Day for the K4s and K5s - From the very start the 5s set the pace and immediately had the opposition on the back foot with Fraser Scott forcing a short corner 2 minutes in. The well worked corner came to nothing but the high intensity set by this young side was relentless and Kelburne 4s struggled to get over the halfway line. A couple of players were asked to play out of position in this game, Dylan slotting into a more central role and Rory leading the line up front and full credit to them, they didn’t look the least bit fazed. There were also a few new faces, Reece, Declan and Adam stepping up from the 6s. After some lovely flowing Hockey on the edge of the 4s circle, Dick managed to pick out Tommy who’s first instinct was to shoot, unfortunately the ball struck Ewan Crawford on the head but after some timeout he managed to recover and return to the action. The 5s were content to play the patient, passing game, building up from the back and flowing moves down both flanks kept the 4s on the back foot. At 15 minutes the 5s made their breakthrough with some intricate passing, inside the circle, Rory, Callum and Andrew linking up to pick out Jared drifting in at the rear post and slot his shot past the keeper. It was 25mins in before 4s had their first real chance on goal, this highlights the team effort of the 5s to keep them at bay. Just before halftime Callum Brown almost scored, surrounded by defenders and no passes on he somehow managed to dribble his way through and with only the keeper to beat, slid his shot past the wrong side of the post. Starting the second half, the 5s piled on the pressure again but 10 minutes in the 4s managed to counter attack, winning a short corner at the other end. The corner was well defended by the youngsters and they again set about dominating this game to the final whistle. Declan and Adam then combined well only to be denied from getting a shot in, Tommy picked up on the loose pass out to then hit a reverse shot over the crossbar.

With 10 minutes left on the clock, Fraser played a superb defence splitting pass, to pick out Jared who then drove forward towards the baseline, cutting his pass back to Rory in the circle to hit a fierce reverse shot which the keeper did well to stop, but Tommy was fast to react and picked up the rebound to unleash his shot into the roof of the net making it 2-0. Great performance all round, great pressing from the forwards, a solid midfield and dependable back line ensured the well deserved victory.

Well done all!
