Kelburne Ladies' 1s Draw vs Cala Edinburgh 1-1

On Saturday 16.11.19 ..and at home in Glasgow Green, the Kelburne Ladie's’ 1’s faced Cala Edinburgh Hockey Club in National league 3. The young side appeared up against it in the opening spell, with the strong Edinburgh outfit commanding possession. However the Kelburne nerves subsided and towards the end of the first half had begun breaking down their attacks and playing themselves into the game. At half time the score remained 0-0. Nevertheless the visitors came out fighting in the second half and their pressure paid off when they opened the scoring in the 55th minute. A fast break down the left hand side was expertly transitioned across the circle and swiftly slotted past the Kelburne keeper by the lone striker. The best period of the game for Kelburne occurred after this goal, with the defence bravely stepping up the pitch to keep Cala camped out in their own half. A well deserved equaliser eventually came for the Paisley team when a corner was calmly claimed in the 60th minute. Although Megan Ralph’s shot was cleared off the post her rebound was superbly slotted beyond the Cala keeper. The next 10 minutes saw both teams throw caution to the wind in search of the illusive equaliser. Both sides came close on different occasions, however, the vibrant home support was instrumental at driving the young Kelburne side across the line. The game finished 1-1 and the Kelburne MVP was GK Emily Irving, whose crucial saves ensured a share of the points for Kelburne.
