Kelburne M4s 1-2 Uddingston

Scorer: Chris Nelson

A Kelburne squad mixed with youth and experience travelled to Uddingston for an early push back in this league encounter. Before the game captain Willy Hunt set out Kelburne's tactics and the team responded with an excellent opening to the game. The young front line of Angus Menzies and Fraser Berry were outstanding from the start. They put the opposition defenders under pressure, which meant the kelburne midfield were able to pick up the loose ball and really keep the Uddingston team entrenched in their own 25. In midfield the experienced Dick Donaldson and Chris Nelson were superbly supported by Bruce Menzies and Callum McDonald. With all the pressure a chance finally opened up. Chris Nelson rolled back the years with a darting run into the circle, he was then able to wrong foot the Uddingston goalie to calmly slot it into the empty net. Credit must also go to Kelburnes defensive line of Willy Hunt, Ewan Crawford, Jack McKellen and Patrick Hagen (playing only his 2nd senior game of hockey) who didn't give Uddingston a single shot at Fionn Wilsons goal. Kelburne continued to apply the pressure on the Uddingston back line but were unable to add anymore goals before half time. A great first half ended and with more words of encouragement the team came out in the 2nd half to try and do much the same.

The young forward line continuously made leads and were getting themselves in the correct position but that 2nd goal was hard to come by. Against the run of play Uddingston won a short corner and were able to convert with a superb strike to bring the game back level. This didn't dampen kelburnes spirits and they immediately went on the attack creating some good openings and having a short corner themselves. Uddingston stood firm and with less than 10 minutes to go Uddingston got a 2nd goal with only their 2nd shot of the game. Kelburne pushed for an equaliser but were unable to get one. A fantastic performance from the Kelburne team who did not get the result they deserved but a lot of positives to take in to their next game.

The kelburne 4's play Helensburgh 2's on the 22nd October and will be looking to build on this performance and get the result they deserve.
