Kelburne Mens' 6s Miss Out to Uddingston 5s

On 9.11.19 - Kelburne’s normally very full roster was decimated by injury and call-offs and as a result met Uddingston 5s at the On-X with a bare-bones squad. With several players playing in positions unusual to them Kelburne’s young guns faced a lively Uddingston team and more than matched them for most of the game. Early in the game Kelburne scrambled the ball away safely but in 15 minutes Uddingston converted a short corner for1-0. After a good save from Ali Glen in 17 minutes Uddingston netted the rebound and made it 2-0. Kelburne pushed forward and were unlucky not to score from a short corner in 20 minutes. Mark Fulton and Declan Magee combined well for a shot on goal in 24 minutes. Kelburne were pressing for a score but Paul Brown had to make a goal-saving clearance in 31 minutes and Kelburne held out for 2-0 down at half-time. SECOND HALF In 42 minutes the Kelburne young guns linked up well and forced Uddingston to defend their zone well. Uddingston survived this spell and in 57 minutes scored number three when Kelburne couldn’t scramble the ball away. Worse was to come in 68 minutes when the Uddingston forwards cashed in on Kelburne trying to get something from the game by pushing Uddingston deep into their own half. Uddingston broke away and finished with a good reverse stick shot. Kelburne never stopped trying and pushed Uddingston right to the end but Uddingston rubbed salt into the wound by scoring right on 70 minutes despite a great save by Ali Glen. 5-0 flattered Uddingston but a lot of Kelburne’s young players learned a lot about themselves today and are taking their game to a higher level every time they wear the black and gold. Great effort guys !!
