With a 4:20pm push back on Saturday 8th October, kelburne ladies 2s looked to make it two out of two this season against Glasgow accies 2s. It was the girls first match back after a few weeks off, and they proved the break hadn’t stopped their momentum!
As the match got underway, the players made their intentions of a win very clear. The midfield worked hard to apply pressure to the opposition and maintained this high intensity throughout the first half. The dynamic movement of the players was causing Accies problems, and the first chance fell to Jen Owen who struck a shot that was well saved by the Accies keeper. Kelburne continued to pass the ball well and a well worked move saw Jen Morgan open the scoring. With the first goal under their belts the girls were hungry for more, and Jen Owen doubled the score with a well placed finish. Kelburne continued to make the play and Alice Ferguson struck an impressive shot on target from just inside the D, but it wasn’t meant to be as the shot was parried away by the accies goalkeeper. With Kelburne now well in control the whistle sounded for half time.
The game resumed after half time with excellent interchanges between midfielders Esther Walker, Jazzlyn Sandhu , and defender Bella Martin. This ensured the ball was played up the line more often and gained the girls territory as they looked for the killer goal. After a period of sustained pressure Jen Owen scored a great goal from an Alice Ferguson centre, that made the scoreline 3-0. Quickly after, skillful play from Jazzlyn Sandhu earned the midfielder yet another goal for kelburne. Accies raised the pressure trying to steal a goal before full time, but it just wasn’t their day.
The girls look to continue their streak next week against Giffnock.
