Experience comes through against the Ladies 1s

Kelburne Ladies 1s v Perthshire Ladies 1s

12/11/2022 -

Kelburne 1s 1-8 Perthshire 1s

Scorers: Simone Upman

The young, inexperienced, Kelburne team travelled up to Perth to face a strong Perthshire team flying high in the National League.

The first quarter was dominated by short corners from both teams with Perthshire finding the net inside the opening 10 minutes despite two excellent saves from Gillian Callander between the posts. As the quarter drew to an end, Kelburne settled into their own rhythm with some quick passing creating up opportunities down both wings but with no clear chances coming. At the end of the first quarter the Perthshire side held a slim lead at 1-0.

The second quarter started as the first ended with Kelburne looking to use the wings to open the game up. Unfortunately the next goal was to be to the team from Perth who, using their fast style of play, managed to capitalise on a lapse of concentration from the young Kelburne side to slot the ball home after some slick passing. This rejuvenated the ladies and saw them create several opportunities, including a disallowed short corner before Simone Upman continued her impressive form to slot home following some excellent work from Jess MacKenzie. The lead to a frantic end to the second half with Perthshire winning four short corners but the Kelburne defence held firm to keep the score to 2-1 at half time.

Perthshire came out in the second half looking to use their experience to put the game to bed and they were helped by an early goal to restore their two goal cushion. Kelburne looked to respond again but were opened up on the counter to allow Perthshire to put the game in their control at 4-1. The fourth quarter started in the same fashion with Perthshire getting a fifth and sixth goal in quick succession. Coach Colin McClure then took off his goalkeeper to try and wrestle back some initiative but it wasn’t to be as Perthshire slotted in twice more before the final whistle. 8-1 was a poor reflection on a young team who were undone by their oppositions experience.

The ladies go again next week against Stirling Wanderers at Glasgow Green.
