A very changed 2s squad traveled to Dundee's Riverside pitch looking to gain a 2nd away win for the weekend. A special thanks to the players who stepped in at the last minute to help out on the day , Susan and Mhairi Gervis, Fiona MacDonald, Abbie Houston, Lynne Houston and Emma 'Houston' Ryan. Kelburne took time to settle in to the game after the long journey. With a few quick tweeks to the structure and formation of the team, Olivia Ritchie and Jen Morgan swapping positions, the team started to push forward though the middle. Although seldom troubled Kelburne fell behind to a quick break by Dundee down the left side and despite Pheobe Jones Williams best effort the ball squeezed in at the far post. Kelburne had a number of short corners in the first half but were unlucky not to convert any of them. Half Time Dundee Uni 1 - 0 Kelburne 2s Kelburne came out to dominate the second half pinning Dundee Uni in their own half for most of the time. Again short corners were won and a combination of good goal keeping and unlucky finishing kept Dundee ahead. Kelburne were pushing and pushing leaving them a little exposed to a break away but the back line again well marshaled by Cath Mclaughlin kept the ball outside the D with Ellie Houston, Rachel Bannatyne and Jen Morgan all making great tackles and clearing passes. Emma Ryan looked to be denied a clear goal scoring opportunity when rounding the Dundee Uni GK she was taken out by the keeper and lost control of the ball. Again Kelburne were awarded a number of short corners but continued to fail to put them in the back of the net. The midfield worked tirelessly to get the ball forward, Fiona MacDonald and Olivia Ritchie linking well with the forwards and super subs Abbie Houston (Ladies 3s GK) and Lynne Houston. With time running out quickly Kelburne again were rewarded with a short corner, although blocked initially the ball spun free and Captain Jen Morgan swept it in for the equaliser.

Pro-Life Kelburne Mens 5s Beat Giffnock 2s - 11.2.17

Pro Life Kelburne 5s started the second half of the season at home to Giffnock 2s. Sitting bottom of the league the team knew they had to start the second half of the season well and that they did. Having most of their adults available and bolstered by the return of Mark Fulton to the starting eleven the young side started well pressing Giffnock and creating chances. Up front Mark Fulton was causing the Giffnock defence all sorts of problems and encouraging Sam Hunt and Jack Nelson to do likewise. In midfield Willie Hunt was causing problems and just in front of defence Hamish Walker was clearing everything. Kelburne created several chances and should have taken the lead but a combination of bad luck and poor finishing let them down. Eventually as the ball bounced about the Giffnock area Mark Fulton fired home high into the net to score his first goal of the season. Giffnock had very few chances but Ewan Crawford, Peter Robertson and Ryan Wood dealt with everything leaving Matthew Retson in goals very little to do. The young Kelburne side continued to create chances and had several short corners but could not add to their total. HT Pro Life Kelburne 5s 1-0 Giffnock 2s The second half started in much the same fashion as the first with Kelburne pressing. The youngsters were growing in confidence and Fergus Noble leading the charge on the right hand side of midfield. As the ball entered the area Mark Fulton created havoc and the ball eventually fell to Rory McNeil who lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to give Kelburne a 2-0 lead. It was his first senior competitive goal for Kelburne. 15 minutes into the second half Hamish Walker had to go off injured and the flow of the game changed with Giffnock pushing Kelburne back into defence. For the last 20 minutes it was mainly Giffnock. Peter Robertson then hobbled off injured and young Callum Stewart stepped back into defence and did a great job at right back. With the clock ticking down Matthew Retson made several good stops to keep Giffnock at bay. When Kelburne did get the ball forward the 3 forwards held the ball up relieving the pressure. Giffnock finally got a consolation goal just before the final whistle but it was too late for a fightback.

U-10's Champions @ West District Indoor Finals

Kelburne U-10's and U-12's demonstrated some exceptional hockey in the West District Finals on Sunday.  At the Lagoon Leisure centre both squads competed well, with the U-10's coming out the overall winners and the U-12's narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot.  Coach Rachael Ewing-Day was delighted with all performances. "the hockey played was testamount to the exceptional work our whole team of coaches put in throughout the year.  We had two squads of ten players competing today, however I am confident that we have at least another ten to twenty players, of equal ability that we could have fielded aswell.  Selection is tough and I was really proud of all players today, although slightly sad that I could not give more an opportunity to compete."

Lee Morton in Senior Mens Squad

Bromac Kelburne star Lee Morton has been selected in the Senior Mens squad for a series of games against France next week.

The squad will play 3 games in thier final preperations for the World League 2 event in Ireland in March. Morton is joined in the squad by ex Burne players Michael Bremner, Alan Forsyth, Ed Greaves and Willie Marshall.

Bromac Mens 1st XI Beat Grange 13-5 (Indoor League)

Bromac Kelburne Mens 1st XI Finish Indoor League with a Win vs Grange - 4.2.17

Bromac Kelburne Mens 1st XI finished off their Indoor Campaign with a convincing 13-5 win vs Grange. Finishing 3rd in the League.

The team has made some great strides during the season under the guidance of Jeff Cairns.

The team will be looking to be back stronger and better for the push for next year's title.

Pro-life Ladies 3s Lose to Western Ladies

Pro-life Kelburne Ladies 3s Lose to Western Wildcats Ladies - 4.2.17

On a cold and wet February afternoon the Kelburne 3's lost 5-0 to Western Wildcats at Glasgow Green. The ladies were competing in the West district second division and fortunately failed to claim any points this week. Although Kelburne created a few chances they failed to get through the Western defence which seemed to benefit from playing and additional outfield player and no keeper. Western were clinical in front of goal and their 5 goals came from open fast break plays. Lora Caven was Kelburne's most valuable player, and Kelburne look forward to making amends in two weeks time away to Hillhead.

 

 

Pro-life Ladies 3s Lose to Glasgow Uni 2s

Pro-life Kelburne Ladies 3s Miss Out vs Strong Glasgow Uni Ladies 2s - 29.1.17

At Glasgow Green, Kelburne Ladies 3's hosted Glasgow University Ladies 2's in the West District Second Division. Starting well the Paisley side caused the university side problems and claimed a corner within the first five minutes. Unfortunately this was unconverted and Glasgow Uni broke to open the scoring. Kelburne kept attacking and unfortunately by stepping high up the pitch gaps did open up which Glasgow Uni capitalized on. At half time the score was unflattering at 6-0. Nevertheless, the team reshaped and came back out to effectively win the second half. Player coach Rachael Ewing-Day scored an individual goal in the 50th minute to enthuse the young squad. Then young Eliza Caven's persistence paid off when she dispossessed a defender and skipped by another before carefully picking out a pass to Lucy Dunlop who easily tapped it past the University squad's keeper. The game finished 6-2 to the visitors, however with lots of positive play the Kelburne squad look forward to welcoming Western Wildcats to Glasgow Green next Saturday.

Pro-life Kelburne Ladies 3s 0-0 Score vs East Kilbride Ladies 2s - 28.1.17

On a cold and snowy January afternoon, Kelburne Ladies 3's travelled to Duncanrig school to face East Kilbride Ladies 2's, the team currently sitting top of the West District 2nd Division. The game started with Kelburne confidently holding their shape and denying East Kilbride time and space on the ball. In attack the young squad retained possession for long spells and were unlucky not to convert more chances. They did however create a series of short corner opportunities, which unfortunately went unconverted. After a promising 1st half the score was 0-0. The second half started much as the 1st half had finished, with Kelburne controlling play in attack and remaining composed in defence. Fantastic holding up play came from the young forward line and this created another 4 corner chances. Although these opportunities did not result in goals, notable was the effort and resilience demonstrated by the forward line to continually keep popping up in the right position. Easy Kilbride broke on a few occasions although solid defensive performances from Neave Halliday and Carol Feeney ensured that Abbie Houston saw the whole game out without having to touch the ball. Even when Lora Caven was harshly green carded on two separate occasions, the young team pulled together in defence to ensure EK found no way through their defence.

The game finished 0-0 and testament to Kelburne improvement, the Paisley side were disappointed not to claim all 3 points. Neave Halliday, for her third game in a row, deservedly claimed the Most Valuable Player Award.

The Ladies 3's return to league action tomorrow against Glasgow University at Glasgow Green, where they will be looking to continue this impressive display, as they look for goals to reward their perseverance.

Pro-life Fitness Ladies 3's draw vs Loch Lomond Ladies - 21.01.17

Home at GNHC, PB 1.30pm

During a Sunny January afternoon the Kelburne ladies 3's faced Loch Lomond in the West district second Division. Fielding a young talented squad, with a full bench Kelburne we're looking to improve on there mid table position against the team sitting top. Nevertheless Loch Lomond came out fighting and the first 15 minutes saw Kelburne camped out in their own half soaking up lots of pressure. Against the run of play experienced player/coach Rachael Ewing-Day carried the ball over the 23 yard line, into the Circle and buried a reverse stick shot pass the Loch Lomond keeper. Then with the nerves settled Kelburne began to create more chances with some lovely possession play in and around the circle. Three corners were claimed within this period which unfortunately were not converted. Then just before half time Loch Lomond broke and found there way past Abbie Houston the Kelburne keeper. Making the score at half time 1-1. The second half begun a lot more calmly from the Kelburne side, who seemed happy to zone defend and counter attack when they could. Then at the 50th minute defender Emma Ryan put the Kelburne ladies ahead again, after a great piece of individual skill. Retaining possession whilst skipping past a sea of Lomond defenders Ryan found the bottom right corner to make the score 2-1. Unfortunately the Paisley side failed to claim all three points after an error in defence left the keeper isolated and with little they could do against a clinical Lomond finish. Kelburne countered in numbers to try and fine me the winner, however another 2 corners went unconverted and the active Lomond keeper proved equal to all there attempts. The game finished 2-2, and Kelburne continue to climb the league with 1 further point. Notably three U-14 players made there competitive senior ladies debuts, demonstrating that the youth production line remains strong. While defender Neave Halliday another U-14 prodigy claimed her 3rd Most Valuable Player award of the season.

Kelburne Ladies 3's face East Kilbride away at duncanrig and are at home at Glasgow Green against Glasgow University in a double header next weekend.

Bromac Ladies 1s Win Promotion back to Division 1

Bromac Kelburne Ladies have won promotion back to National League Division 1 with some fantastic attacking performances, culminating in 2 victories on the final day to secure the Division 2 title. With a very young squad with only really 3 players who had indoor experience they completely dominated the league apart from one weekend, where results went against them. After going the full 1st half with an 100% record, they recovered well from dropping points in the opening weekend of the 2nd half to win all the remaining games. 

Commenting on the success coach Adam Bain said: 

"Captain Emma Barlow led by example and played some of the best indoor I've seen from her. and Molly Godfrey found her scoring form at the best time.  Natalie MacKinnon produced some solid performances in goal and in the last weekend really upped her game under the guidance of Rory Kerr.

It has been a real team effort, Cath McLaughan and Olivia Ritchie who were a really strong pairing at the back and gave the forwards confidence to play. Imogen Davies, Rach Bain, Kath Meenan and Ellise Berry all impressed in their first real season of having more pressure placed upon them. All played extremely well.

New indoor players Iona Grant and Marie Kolasinski played a big part in keeping the squad fresh and entertained, as well as Outdoor captain and vice Stephanie McInally and Ellie Halliday who both stepped in at times to ensure the squad was never under strength.

The girls are looking forward to playing in Division 1 next season and testing themselves at that level"

A great effort by all involed to win the league and congratulations from all at Kelburne!

Alan Forsyth Selected in GB Squad for Tokyo 2020 Programme

The club are delighted to see that Alan Forsyth has been selected in the new GB Men's central programme who will be coming together to prepare for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. 

Alan joined the programme in the build up to last years Rio Olympics but was unable to break into the final squad despite an impressive season which saw him named player of the year and also top the scoring charts in England. Alan is joined in the squad by fellow Scot Chris Grassick and both will be working hard over the coming years to make the final squad in 3 years time. 

Alan is a fantastic role model for all at Kelburne, having worked his way through the ranks from jockey hockey, making his 1st team debut at 14, before going on to play a key role in a number of league and cup victories for the Men's 1st team, with the most memorable being scoring the winner against Grange to win the Scottish Cup with 2 seconds left in the game. 

Although based in Surbiton, Alan is a regular at club events when he returns to Scotland and is a great example of hard work paying off, he has come a long way since his days on the grass at Whitehaugh and all at the club wish him well in his quest for selection.  

Christie on fire as Bromac Kelburne retain top spot.

Veteran sharpshooter Johnny Christie was again in top form as Bromac Kelburne retained their place at the top of the National League yesterday scoring 9 times in victories over Grange and Hillhead. Christie has now amassed an incredible 29 goals in 7 games this year, showing why he can still lay claim to be the best goalscorer in the country. 

Christie may be the finisher, however he is well supported by a strong squad who have performed consistently well this year under the guidance of Jeff Cairns. Missing Scotland Senior players Lee Morton, Michael Bremner and goalkeeper Rory Kerr, the depth of the squad was evident as Jonas Nommensen, Jack McKenzie, Adam Bain, Craig Morton and Iain Scholefield all claimed goals in addition to Christie's haul. With the squad also containing Josh Cairns, Gary Maitles, Nick FInlayson and Chris Nelson, there is a growing confidence within the group that they can have a successful season. 

The squad now moves onto the split looking to consolidate their position in preparation for the crossover games on the 28th. Full report from Scottish Hockey.
