3 points for the Men's 2s over Watsonian 3s

Kelburne Men’s 2s v Watsonian Men’s 3s

24/9/2022 - 12.20pm

Kelburne 2s 3-1 Watsonian 3s

Scorers: JG Shepherd, Andrew Duff and Callum McCaffer

Kelburne took to Glasgow green on a rare sunny afternoon. Shaky start with watsonians scoring straight from push back with a smart aerial into Kelburnes 25s that took the defenders by surprise, a quick pass from watsonians and the ball was in the net before Kelburne were able to switch on. After this the pressure continued to build with Kelburne second best and out of shape for spells. However some good defending from returning Adam Bain and Dick Donaldson got Kelburne to quarter time only 1 goal down.

2nd quarter JG scored with a quick sweep into the net after his first shot was run down by watsonians on an option from kelburnes first short corner. Kelburne then began to push on in the game, however it was still very even until JG found A Duff from the sideline who quickly moved the ball to M byrne on the baseline and received it back for a simple 1-2 to finish smartly.

3rd quarter a well won short was nearly converted by M Byrne flick to the keepers right hand side. A smart save with keepers stick pushing the ball wide with ease. The game began to grow more in kelburnes favour in short spells but Kelburne and watsonians both battled for control. Kelburne almost added another through smart play

In the 4th quarter Kelburne found a 3rd goal from quick build up starting from S Robbie into Scott love who played a first time ball into the D finding M byrne who was able to square quickly for the Calum McAffer to latch home a quick shot into the right side. After this tensions began to rise and after a quick break down the centre M Byrne was bundled off the ball illegally in a challenge that resulted in a yellow card to Watsonians. However the drama was not over as with minutes to play Watsonians broke 2v1 on kelburnes, with the keeper to beat the warzone player fluffed his lines and Kelburne were able to let out a collective sigh of relief.

All in all a tough test for Kelburne, but one that the squad was able to battle through. They look forward to a tough game away against Dunfermline 2nd Xi next Saturday.
