Pro-Life Kelburne Men's 5s Draw with Clydesdale 4s 1-1 on 25.3.17

The young Kelburne team took to the pitch looking to get back into winning form after some narrow defeats, welcoming back goal keeper David Ogilvie. They knew it would be difficult as they faced an experienced Clydesdale team who were sitting near the top of the league. The game started at a good pace with both defences being in top form leaving very few chances. Don Tervit and Willie Hunt made sure that the Clydesdale forwards did not create any real chances. In midfield Dick Donaldson helped drive the team forward but with little success. The first half played out with both teams at stalemate.

HT Kelburne 0-0 Clydesdale - Don Tervit moved up front to try and give the young Kelburne team a bit more of a cutting edge and this worked as he managed to hold play up and allow Kelburne to start creating more chances. 10 minutes into the 2nd half Don Tervit strode into the area and fired an unstoppable shot to give Kelburne the lead. This lifted the spirits of the Kelburne team and for the next 15 minutes the youngsters played some of their best hockey of the season. Callum Brown, Calum Jamieson, Rory McNeil, Roc Hart and Callum Flemming in midfield with Sam Hunt and Jack Nelson playing up front were all working hard and showing great endeavour. They held the ball up and were brave enough to take on the Clydesdale players. With 5 minutes to go Kelburne won a penalty corner with a chance to clinch victory but the Clydesdale keeper was on hand to pull off an excellent save. From the subsequent counter attack one of the Clydesdale youngsters fired a reserve shot from the edge of the area for an equaliser. The final whistle followed soon after.

Next Saturday, 1st April, the young Kelburne team travel to face Helenburgh 2s at Hermitage Academy for the penultimate game of the season with a 12-15 pushback.

Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 3s Beat Clydesdale 5s - 18.3.17

ProLife Kelburne Ladies 3's hosted Clydesdale Ladies 5's on Saturday in the West district second division. Glasgow Green was the venue for this local derby with both squads fielding large youthful squads. Pro-Life Kelburne opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Ambar Hendry calmly slotted the ball past the Clydesdale keeper following a left sided attack. This goal was quickly followed by another after Neave Halliday stole into the circle from right back and screamed a deflected ball into the bottom left hand corner. Kelburne looked very comfortable at this point and just before half time they consolidated this lead further when Georgia Jennings jumped on a rebound off the keeper to ensure the ball hitcthed the back of the net. At half time the score was 3-0 to the home side.

The second half began as much as the first had finished, with Kelburne commanding possession of the ball and utilising the width down both flanks. Nevertheless although some great right side crosses came in from Halliday Kelburne failed to increase their lead. Much composure was required at the other end however as Clydesdale broke at speed on a number of occasions. Nevertheless although seven corners were conceded, the Kelburne defence stood strong and calmly dealt with each in turn. The game finished 3-0 to ProLife Kelburne 3's, who continue to climb beyond their mid table league position. They look forward to hosting Garnock HC next Saturday again at Glasgow Green. Most valuable player this week who was voted as captain Carol Feeney, whose goal line clearance earned her a split knuckle alongside this award.

Bromac Kelburne Mens 1s Beat Hillhead 4-1 on 11.3.17

Today Kelburne continued their quest for a 13th consecutive league title with a home game against local rivals Hillhead. The first half was a case of taken chances with Hillhead creating 3 short corners in the early stages but failed to convert any. Kelburne responded with 2 short corner goals from Josh Cairns to give the home team a bit of breathing space. Other chances were created by Kelburne but a mixture of good goal keeping and a goal line clearance kept Hillhead in the tie at half time. Coach Sheppard wanted Kelburne to up their intensity in the 2nd half and Kelburne responded to this by again scoring from another short corner. This time a well worked routine enabled Ben Peterson to score into the bottom corner. Kelburne continued to dominate possession and create chances but couldn't find the fourth goal. Hillhead finally responded from one of their many short corners to bring the game to 3-1 with a glimmer of hope to getting back into the tie. This glimmer soon disappeared as Josh Cairns once again stepped up to complete his hat trick of short corner flicks.

The final whistle brought Kelburne another 3 points with a decent performance. The team now move on to their next game against Gordonians in two weeks time.

Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 3's Draw Against Ferguslie - 11.3.17

Pro Life Kelburne Ladies 3's hosted Ferguslie Ladies in the West District derby game on Saturday. The young squad started well and had the majority of play in the opening 10 minute spell. The opening goal was scored by Kirsty Loudon on the 15th minute mark, when a strong run and shot was deflected past the Ferguslie keeper. This was followed 10 minutes later by an individual strike and goal from Philippa Saddler. Saddler pounced on a hit out from the back and rounded the defender prior to slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Ferguslie quickly responded to this when a long pass and break away play was calmly slotted past the Kelburne keeper. However Kelburne once again found an answer and a lovely left side attack was converted by Eliza Caven from the top of the circle. At half time the score was 3-1 to ProIife Kelburne. In the second half Kelburne maintained a large amount of the possession and their holding tactic looked like it was really working. Nevertheless after failing to convert a series of corners and then conceding the only corner their opponents got at the other end they found themselves up against it in the final 5 minutes with the score at 3-2. Unfortunately the experience of Ferguslie pulled through as they broke in the final minute to once again find the Kelburne net. The score finished 3 each at the final whistle and once again Neave Halliday was voted most valuable player. Kelburne Ladies return to action next week at home at Glasgow Green to Western Wildcats.

Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 2's Lose to Stirling Wanderers 3-5 on 12.3.17

The game had a rocky start for Kelburne with Emma Ryan getting an ankle injury and having to go off within the first minute of the game. However they soon recovered and the first goal of the match was scored by Kelburne due to Lucy Bliss stealing the ball and running up the pitch where she crashed the ball in for Lucy Dunlop on post. The Stirling Wanderers came back fighting however despite their continous presence and attacking in Kelburnes D they scored only one goal before half time.

Within the first 5 minutes of the second half the Stirling Wanderers had won a short corner in which they scored on. However, Kelburne came back and a good pass up the right to Bethany Allan who crashed the ball into the D lead to Lucy Bliss scoring Kelburnes second goal. But despite the best efforts of Kelburne's defense, Stirling Wanderers scored 2 more goals (one from open play and the other from another short corner). Despite this Kelburne didn't give up and in the final 5 minutes Holly Pitts scored Kelburnes third goal from a rebound from the goalie. This put Kelburne back in the match and they came back stronger with Holly Hendry and Kathryn Meenan relentlessly annoying the goalie with shots however with 1 minute to goal a Stirling Wanderer defender managed to clear the ball to their high striker who managed to score the final goal of the match. Kelburne played exceedingly well despite the continous pressure the faced in their D. Lucy Bliss and Kathryn Meenan both took advantage of any breaks Kelburne got by running the ball up the pitch and taking shots at the goalie. Lucy Dunlop who normally plays for 3rds also did very well, scoring a goal for the 2nds. Kelburne Womens 2s hope to get their winning streak back next week against Ayr.

Unfortunately, the Kelburne ladies 3s lost 4-1 to Broomhill at home in Glasgow Green. Despite being 1-1 at half time following a goal from Rachael Ewing-Day, the young squad conceded 3 in the second half to lose the tie. Neave Halliday was voted as most valuable player after a strong defensive performance.

Next week they face Ferguslie Ladies.

MNL Div 1: Bromac Kelburne 1st XI Beat Grove Menzieshill - 5.3.17

Today saw Kelburne's fourth game in two weeks when they faced Menzieshill at home in the league. Menzieshill who are currently sitting 3rd in the league would be a tough test for the boys from Paisley. The game started at a great pace with Kelburne out the blocks quickly creating a number of chances. None of these were taken and the game turned on its head when Nick Finlayston received a 10 minute yellow. This allowed Menzieshill back into the game but Kelburne's defense held out. Nick then turned from sinner to saint by deflecting a high ball into the oppositions goal to give Kelburne the lead. The scoreline quickly moved to 2-0 as Lee Morton intercepted a loose pass, waltzed into the circle and fired in an unstoppable shot past the keeper. Menzieshill then came right back into the game before half time with two goals. The first was from a hit and hope ball into the circle, which was pounced on by the attacker. The second was a rebound from a corner. Some motivational words from coach Sheppard at half time spurred the Kelburne team on to make sure they came away with the 3 points.

The second half was one where Kelburne had to dig deep against a very good Menzieshill side who had chances of there own to take the lead but two quick goals from Lee Morton, who scored a tap in back post and Ben Peterson unleashing a trademark reverse stick shot ensured Kelburne came away from this tricky fixture with the 3 points they required to keep the title charge on track.

MNL Div 1: Bromac Kelburne Mens 1st XI Beat Western - 4.3.17

Today saw Kelburne face a young and enthusiastic Wildcats side in the League at Auchenhowie and it was the Wildcats who looked the brighter team in the opening exchanges. But they could not take the lead and missed a number of chances. Kelburne capitalized on this and against the run of play managed to sneak the first goal as Nick Finlayston got a tap in at the back post. Western were not to be denied for long as they soon leveled up proceedings scoring a scrappy goal before half time.

Some stern words from coach Sheppard at half time kicked the Paisley team into life and they soon took the lead from a trademark corner from Josh Cairns. This seemed to ease the pressure on Kelburne who were then able to dictate play and creating good chances to extend the lead. This eventually happened at another penalty corner as Cairns again produced another fierce shot which left the keeper with no chance. Veteran Johnny Christie then wrapped up proceedings with an easy tap in at the back post after a lovely flowing team move. This wasn't perhaps a vintage performance from the Paisley team but it was three points in the bag against a very energetic Wildcats side.

Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 2s Beat Uddingston Ladies 1s - 4.3.17

Kelburne travelled to Carluke to play Uddingston ladies. With Olivia Saddler and Rachel Bannatyne unable to play, Drew Berry stepped in for the game. The first half was fairly evenly matched with both sides having shots on goal however not scoring. The most memorable miss was just before half time when Uddinston had three attempts at goal but managed to trickle the ball past the Kelburne post. How did they miss??? Half time score was 0-0.

Kelburne started with good momentum with an early shot on goal and then winning a short corner, however Kelburne did not score from this due to Uddingston's goalie performing a good save. Uddingston quickly took possession and scored. Kelburne then retaliated by having a shot on goal from Holly which was saved but she then won a short corner from which Holly scored from post. Kelburne put Uddingston under pressure and Drew broke from half way getting past many Uddingston players to then take a shot from top of the D making the score 2-1 to Kelburne. Phoebe in goals for Kelburne had some good saves then Kelburne put Uddingston under pressure again with Drew taking possession and scoring from an impressive shot from the edge of the D making the score 3-1 to Kelburne. Kelburne continued to play well with another short corner, which Ellie shot just wide of the goal. Lucy had a shot saved by the goalie and Tara's shot was hit just wide of the post. Against the run of play Uddingston scored from a quick break away taking the score to 2-3, Kelburne still winning. Kelburne played some lovely hockey in search for a fourth goal and came close with shots from Kirsty and Lucy. However the game finished with a finial score of 3-2.

Pro-Lfie Kelburne Ladies 2s Win vs Strathclyde Uni - 26.2.17

We started off strong with most of the possession and strong, fast transfers around the back. However, the majority of us didn't run for the ball causing the opposition to easily intercept the ball, so they had many break throughs. Luckily, Holly Hendry reversed sweeped it to penalty spot and Fiona hit it right into the goal. The next goal was scored in one of our short corners; injected out to Ellie who instantly did a strong, powerful hit into the corner of the goal. After a half time team talk, discussing leads, strikers positions and running for the ball, we went onto the pitch and played a much better half. Mids were leading, remarkable runs were made and defence's tackles were a lot stronger. This lead us to win 2-0, so overall it was a great game with lots of effort put in, however, we need to do what we did in the second half in the first half in our next game against Uddingston.

A win today with a super young 3s team and well organised 4s team. A great inter club game played in great spirit with great performances from 3s Logan in goals to keep a clean sheet. Rory and Allan up front, Johnny at left back and especially Fergus Noble and Scott Peters.

The young Kelburne 5s team took to the pitch at On-X Linwood looking to build on last weeks victory. The side were bolstered by the additions of Dick Donaldson and Don Tervit. The young Kelburne side started on the back foot as the Uddingston adults pushed them back into defence. With lots of possession Uddingston pushed forward and after 5 minutes won a free hit just outside the area which came to nothing. On the left hand side some good play between youngsters Sam Hunt and Aaron O'Hear helped relieve the pressure. In the centre of midfield Dick Donaldson was working hard and winning lots of balls which helped restrict Uddingston to firing the ball into the area from distance. From one of these balls Uddingston won the first short corner of the game in 9 minutes but great work from Willie Hunt cleared the danger. Uddingston continued to push forward but resolute defending from Scott Peters and Ryan Wood kept shots on target to a minimum. Kelburnes first real chance came after 20 minutes when great work from Fergus Noble fired the ball into the area but Aaron O'Hear was unlucky not to get his shot on target. This lifted the Kelburne spirits and after 30 minutes Dick Donaldson and Don Tervit combined to find Ian McIntyre in the area and he coolly slotted the ball past the keeper to put Kelburne into the lead. As the clock ticked down to halftime Uddingston won a second penalty corner from which Matthew Retson made a great save to preserve Kelburnes lead. HT ProLife Kelburne 1-0 Uddingston 5s After a good team talk from Willie Hunt at halftime the young Kelburne 5s came out and pushed Uddingston into defence. From the start Kelburne had the ball in the area but Uddingston managed to clear. At the other end Scott Peters made a timely clearance. Great work from Aaron O'Hear won Kelburnes first short corner of the game and a good shot from Don Tervit went narrowly wide. Kelburne created several good chances with Fergus Noble causing problems down the right hand side and firing balls into the area with Callum Brown unlucky not to get on the end of one. Roc Hart and Callum Stewart were playing well in midfield and Callum Jamieson was pushing forward. With 10 minutes to go Uddingston pushed forward in search of an equaliser with Kelburne defending deeper and hitting on the break. Matthew Retson stood tall in goals and a clearance from Kelburne found Jack Nelson who controlled the ball and forced the keeper into a good save. With 2 minutes remaining Uddingston won a short corner but the Kelburne defence were quick and cleared to Jack Nelson in the Uddingston area. Once again Jack controlled the ball well and forced another good save from the keeper. Kelburne celebrated a second victory as the full time whistle blew.

Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 2s Beat Perth Ladies 1s - 25.2.17

The team only played for less than 5 minutes during the first half until we got our first goal scored by Katrina Miller putting us 1-0 up already, with a reverse sweep straight into the corner of the goal. Throughout the first half there were many stick tackles which put players at risk of getting carded however learning from this greatly improved our 2nd half of the match and there were fewer tackles. Susan made many great saves throughout both halves saving great hits with her feet but also sliding across the goal saving it with her stick. Our communication was better than it has been previously and with this skill we were able to let our team mates know if they weren't marking a player and what they were doing right but also what the best decision would be to make. The scored stayed 1-0.

The 2nd half was much more better than the first, each player made better decisions with the ball and made easier, more simple passes which gave us a bigger advantage over the other team. Tighter marking of players improved also. We had several short corners but only managed to score one, with Lucy getting a goal in, top D strike. Then Kirsty Gorman scored with a rebound. Shortly afterwards the other team scored by pushing the ball into the net, then by a penalty flick as the ball hit one of defenders foot during a short corner. The opposition scored again with a straight strike at a short corner. However the team never put their heads down which lead to holly sweeping the ball from the baseline and getting us a goal which brought the score to 4-3. Overall we had many short corner opportunities and were very close in scoring several goals.

The team achieved another 3 points today after a great game.

A young Pro-Life Fitness Kelburne Ladies 3's travelled away to face Hillhead Ladies 2's in the West district 2nd Division on saturday. The sun came out after a blustery start to the day for the start of the game, which was played at Jordanhill school. In typical form Kelburne claimed control of the game from the first whistle and looked lively across the pitch in the opening 10 minutes. There enthusiasm payed off in the 15th minute when Emma Ryan blasted a from top of the circle to open the scoring. Just before half time player/coach Rachael Ewing-Day picked the ball up outside the 23 yard line and drove into the circle to claim another. The score at half time was 2-0 with Kelburne 3's looking in control. The second half begun well though Abbie Houston was tested in goals on a few occasion. Unfortunately Houston, impeded by the Sun, failed to stop Hillhead from pulling one back in the 45th minute. The young Kelburne side rode out a period of pressure from Hillhead at this point. Which the defence did well to soak up and remain calm during. Nerves settled a bit in the 50th minute when young forward Ambar Hendry confusing the defence with her dynamic running to create space for herself inside the circle. Lovely link up play from Connie Reid and Philippa Saddler moved the ball onto Hendry and she calmly slotted by her past the Hillhead defence. Kelburne then followed this with a number of corners in a row, each of which narrowly missed the goal. Before Kirsty Loudon found the Hillhead goal again, after another left sided attack and pass from Ryan. Kelburne weren't done yet and in the 65th minute Cara Bruce also found the goal. Her mature defensive play forced a turnover from the centre back and she found herself able to move forward and alotvthe ball again into the Hillhead goal.

The game finished 5-1 to Pro-Life Kelburne Ladies 3's. With young defender Rebecca Feeney claiming her first Most Valuable Player award, in her first season playing senior hockey. Kelburne look forward to welcoming Broomhill to Glasgow Green next week as the seek to keep climbing the league table. www.kelburne.com
