Kelburne Mens' 4s Beat East Kilbride 1s 7-2

On 9.11.19 - After a couple of weeks off, the 4s were looking to continue where they had left off in the previous fixture against an East Kilbride team looking to claim 3 points away from home. The 4s started the game strongest and were on the attack from the off with several chances for the experienced trio of Mark Connor and the Fairbairn twins. Whilst chances were created it took a while for Kelburne to really start challenging the EK keeper who produced several fine saves throughout the game. Even with so much Kelburne domination, East Kilbride showed glimpses of why they should not be under estimated with quick counter attacks that were handled well by the experienced Kelburne back line. Halfway through the first half and Kelburne finally opened the scoring with Steven Robbie clinically reversing the ball past the on rushing keeper. With this Kelburne started to find their attacking rhythm and the chances started to come thick and fast with Mark Connor grabbing a quick fire brace before the interval to give Kelburne a 3 goal advantage at the halway stage. As the second half started, East Kilbride got themselves back in the game with a simple goal coming through the middle of the pitch to reduce the deficit down to 2. To this point Colin Fairbairn, scorer of 12 goals this campaign already, had been kept quiet but he popped up neatly to restore the 3 goal lead before, again, East Kilbride came back to claim their second of the match and heap the pressure on Kelburne. The EK pressure didn't last too long before Mark Connor completed his hat trick with a nice finish from a flowing Kelburne move. Colin Fairbairn finished a nice counter attack to take his tally to 14 for the season before captain Ryan Wood grabbed the teams seventh, and his first ever senior goal, to round of the display from a short corner.

Another great team performance that sets up the squad nicely for the Kelburne double-header weekend next weekend with the 4s playing the 5s at Glasgow Green at 12pm on Saturday before facing off against the 3s in the Cup at Linwood (1.30pm) on Sunday.

Kelburne Mens' 6s Lose Out to Giffnock 2s

On Saturday, 2.11.19, the Kelburne 6s were back in action at the On-X against a strong Giffnock 2s side. It was a nervy start for the young Kelburne side who fielded 8 under 15s within the 6s development squad. Early exchanges lead to Kelburne keeper Ally Glen making a great save in 10mins, pushing the ball past his left hand post for a long corner. Giffnock kept pressing hard and forced a series of short corners, which kept Kelburne firmly in there own 25 for long periods of the 1st half. In 23 mins Giffnock made the break through that their early pressure deserved, with a bursting run down the right wing, the ball was squared in to the D and through a swarm of bodies the ball was deflected into the back of the net, with the Kelburne keeper only able to watch on. Kelburne started to regain some control and in 31mins pressed Giffnock back in to there own D, with a piercing pass from Mark Fulton right on to the front stick of Cole Norrie, the youngest player on the park. His shot slides just past keepers right hand post. Kelburne maintained this pressure and forced a short corner following a drive from Fulton. The short corner went narrowly past the Giffnock goal as unfortunately Ian McIntyre just did not get enough of his stick on the ball. Adam Jack closed out the 1st half with a drive down the right from half way, only for the ball to slide over the bye line on pressure from the Giffnock defence. The 2nd half started with a good amount of Kelburne possession culminating in brilliant defending from young Robert with Giffnock 2's pushing forward. Halftime 0-1 An early interception by Fulton took pressure off the Kelburne defenders by a good drive into the Giffnock D with Mark's shot going wide. Giffnock pushed forward in numbers with Tom Hunt doing good work in retaking possession from this attack and passing onto Cole Norrie who attacked well but was crowded out by Giffnock in the centre of the pitch. Strong Giffnock play resulted in a short corner for striking a foot in our D, last gasp defending by Ian and Willy cleared the danger. On 47 minutes, Alan Bryce held up the ball with good play and Kelburne gained a short corner with the ball being pushed just past the post. Further strong attacking play by Kelburne kept Giffnock pinned in their own half, which included Mark evading a large amount of Giffnock tackles and passing from the corner area into the goal area but Kelburne attackers just couldn't get a stick onto the ball. A great drive by Willy earned a Kelburne short corner with Hamish taking a shot which was well saved by the Giffnock keeper. On 59 minutes Kelburne keeper Reece had a one on one with a Giffnock attacker and pulled off a tremendous point blank save On 60 minutes a build up of play by Giffnock resulted in a loose high ball in the Kelburne D being touched into the goal. 2 nil Giffnock. Kelburne weren't receiving the best of luck as an innocuous and hopeful ball into the Kelburne D on the 62nd minute escaped the attention of our defenders and was deflected into Kelburnes goal. 3 nil. Mark capitalised at 63 minutes on some slack Giffnock play and drove into the D, the initial shot was mishit however Mark persevered and followed up by diving to push the ball past the Giffnock keeper into the back of the net. 3-1 !

On 65 minutes a great drive by Willy following a Giffnock short corner was taken to the Giffnock D with Mark putting a slight touch on the ball but unfortunately the umpire didn't see the ball move from Willy's original shot. On 68 minutes, kelburne were defending well and appeared to be in control of the ball but against the run of play a deflection allowed a Giffnock goal . 4-1. Our young players don't let their heads drop and this was evident at a minute before time when young Cole ran forward with the ball and passed to Alan on the left wing but the ball went out. Match ended 4-1 Giffnock but once again our young players play with positivity, pride and they all enjoy playing which is a pleasure to watch.

Next week the development squad return to On-X Linwood to play Uddingston 5s with a 2-15pm pushback

Young Kelburne Ladies' 2s Miss Out vs Top of League Western 2s

This saturday (2.11.19) saw the young team play very well against the top of the league. During the first half the team were put under a lot of pressure in defence but soaked it up well and GK Lynne Houston made some outstanding saves to keep the score line to 2-0. Just before half time Kelburne were able to capitalise on one of their attacking plays by getting a short corner. With a fast pull out from Kerri McGinnity to Jen Morgan at top D, Jen Owen was able to convert the stop into a strong strike to the back post that pinged off a defender’s stick into the goal. Halftime Kelburne 1 - Western - 2 The second half saw a much stronger performance from the young team after some tactical changes from coach Gordon Martin. The play was very even and Kelburne was able to put Western under a lot of pressure. Kelburne pushed up into the opposition D many times but were unlucky not to convert their chances. Against the run of play towards the end of the second half Western managed to sneak a 3rd goal. It was a strong performance from all and showed what the team is capable of. Well done to our adult stalwart Kerry McGinnity on being voted MVP.

Young Kelburne Mens' 5s Beat Hillhead 5s 2-1

26.10.19 - On a blowy but beautiful day at Glasgow Green 11 youngsters and two adults don their Amber jerseys to take on the Hillhead 5’s. The whistle blows and almost straight away Hillhead put a ball on target, no bother for the young keeper Fiónn Wilson who makes a magnificent left hand save only to be dashed three minutes later when Hillhead strike from the centre of the D to make it 1-0. Eight minutes in and Kelburne seized their first chance with a shot from Callum Stewart comfortably saved by the opposing keeper. After a scramble in the D Kelburne win a short corner, not a problem for the young team as Callum Brown keeps his cool as it hits the backboard 1-1. Young Sam Hunt passed to the younger Tommy Austin to get the team out a sticky spot, a great ball from Tommy through the middle, leads to a solid goal from Callum Stewart 2-1. With only 17 minutes gone there has been some fantastic hockey on display by the young Kelburne side! A sharp break by Hillhead is not good enough for 5’s first timer Fraser Scott who passes to Andrew McGrane who confidently strides up the wing, Hillhead make a quick turnaround and keeper Fiónn is faced with a 121 situation but confidently commands his goal and sees the challenge off. Equal domination continues with breaks from both sides. A nifty move from Rory Donaldson rounding numerous players and then crossing to the D where Andrew skilfully leaves for a Tommy strike which goes just wide….all this excitement and the half time whistle has only just went! An early short for Hillhead is sent wide by Fiónn, a break for Kelburne leads to a halfway line tussle where Jared takes a sore tackle and retires to the bench for a few minutes to recover. Amazing pressure from the youngsters with a constant battle for possession despite the intimidating roar of the Hillhead keeper. Fantastic work in midfield by Callum Brown with breaks from Tommy and Rory sees Kelburne pressing for a 3rd goal, although various attempts from Sam, Rory, Andrew, Jared and Dick to name only a few the Hillhead keeper does his job well. After another save by Fiónn, it’s clear the young team have Hillhead rattled as some strong challenges creep in…pressure, pressure, pressure. With only minutes to go Hillhead are awarded a short corner - Fiónn stops the shot which projects into the air and he confidently strikes it with his stick, 2nd short corner awarded as the whistle goes and the full Kelburne team are running back, the ball rolls wide…full time 2-1 Kelburne. Bring on Rottenrow 2s next week!

Kelburne Mens' 4s Beat Uddingston 4s 7-3

On Saturday 26.10.19 the Kelburne Mens’ 4s entertained all with a few key players missing and the bare eleven. The home side started quickly and were soon ahead thanks to Mark Connor finishing off a flowing move. Soon it was 2-0 when Kevin Fairbairn drove down the left channel and into the D. Where a Uddingston defender diverted his pass into the goal. Uddingston pulled a goal back after the ball sneaked under Rowan McClure from a short corner. Kelburne went down to 10 men when Captian Ryan Wood had to go off injured. Soon after Kelburne restored their advantage when Colin Fairbairn arrived to deflect a back post pass from Hamish Walker. the score board wasn't troubled any more before half time with a frantic midfield battle for dominance. At the start of the 2nd half Kelburne pushed further ahead when a quick counter attack ended in a subtle touch past the Uddingston Keeper from C Fairbairn. Uddingston were starting to take control of the midfield battle, but some stout defence from Kelburne kept them at bay. However from a short corner Uddingston pulled a goal back. Yet from the restart Kelburne yet again restored their advantage when Colin scored his 3rd and the teams 5th. the pace and movement of the Kelburne front line was causing the visitors all sorts of trouble and soon it was 6-2 when Mark Connor got his 2nd of the game with a crisp strike from the centre of the D. As the game reached its closing stages both teams were taking turns to attack. Uddingston managed to pull a goal back to make it 6-3. Yet with the way the match was going it was soon 7-3 as yet again Colin found the back of the net from a quickly taken free hit. Both teams had further chances but failed to convert and the match finished in a hard fought victory for the home side and a valuable 3 points. Well done guys!

19.10.19 - Kelburne Ladies' 1s Draw vs Inverleith HC 1-1

Looking back to last Saturday, the Kelburne Ladies 1st XI travelled to the capital to play Inverleith in National League 2. With a depleted youthful squad Drew Berry and Rachael Ewing-Day were the only players over 20. While Aimee McGrane, Freya Halliday and Charley Austin, who were all given their debuts last week, found themselves in the starting eleven. Madeline Bower another youngster brought into the squad for her debut, also started the fixture. However after a energetic warm up the Paisley team started the game will confidence and enthusiasm, maintaining possessions well in their own half. Nevertheless Inverleith created the best chances of this half but could not find a way beyond the Kelburne keeper Emily Irving. Solid defending from Berry, Bower, McGrane and Halliday kept Inverleith at bay. While Dalia Stewart and Ewing-Day was quick to run down all corner attempts. The score at half time was 0-0. The second half saw Kelburne take the game to the Edinburgh side with the defence supporting the attack at every opportunity. Abbie Irvine, Megan Ralph and Holly Hendry all offering width and depth in midfield when Kelburne were in possession. On occasion the Edinburgh outfit broke at pace, however Irving was quick off her line to see the ball out when required, making some miraculous point blank reactive saves. Notably with 15 minutes remaining and during one of these breaks Maddie found herself yellow carded after her tackle as the last player was deemed strategic. Kelburne had to reshuffle in defence and unfortunately conceded during this period, with a through ball from the left finding its way underneath Irving. Surprisingly the inexperienced Paisley side showed excellent determination to come alive after goal. Amber Henry working hard up front to claim a series of short corners. Drew’s shots on the first two occasions narrowly missed the left hand post. However with 3 minutes remaining Ewing-Day’s top D shot was deflected off a Inverleith stick into the roof of the net and Kelburne ladies equalised. Both sides worked tirelessly in the remaining few minutes as Inverleith through everything at the Paisley team in search of a winner. Nevertheless the young side showed wisdom beyond their years to calmly deal with the pressure and the game finished 1-1. Most valuable player was Emily Irving who’s display between the sticks kept Kelburne alive on many occasions. While Madeline Bowers strong debut merited applause from both sets of fans.

Looking back.. Kelburne Mens' 2s Defeated by Hillhead 2s

on 19.10.19 - the Kelburne 2's were overrun and outplayed by an experienced Hillhead 2's side. We were easily exposed at the back and this was evident due to the extent of the scoreline. However, there were spells in the game where we had lots of the ball but we just couldn't find a way through to have an attempt on goal. JG received a Green card late on for a wild stick tackle. Ally Gray managed to slot a goal home for the Kelburne side giving a final score of 1-10. The good news is that we have an immediate chance to bounce back when we play Grange 2's tomorrow. Looking forward now to tomorrow’s game.

Kelburne Mens' 1s Lose Out vs Western Wildcats

Looking back to Saturday 12.10.19, Kelburne went into this game after securing their first point of the season the previous week with a 3-3 draw verses Hillhead. The game started off evenly but Western opened the scoring five minutes into the game. A strong run by a Western player causing some confusion in the Kelburne defenceand then Western then slotting the ball past Logan McClure in the Kelburne goal. Kelburne settled after going behind and came strongly back into the game. Tidy play from Gary Maitles resulted in Kelburne winning their first penalty corner of the game. Finn Halliday then stepped up and sent the Western goalkeeper the wrong way, sliding his drag flick into the right hand side of the net. The first quarter finished 1-1. The second quarter started evenly with good play down the Kelburne right hand side with Connor Bain. Western perhaps created more clear cut chances and would have pulled ahead in the game if it wasn't for some clever saves from Logan McClure. Kelburne then took the lead after a slick move down the right hand side. Maitles passing the ball out of defence to Spanard Pol Abericio, he then fed the ball to the baseline to Halliday who passed the ball across the Western circle. The ball fell nicely to Abericio who had continued his run and he was able to slot the ball under the Western keeper. The quarter finished with a number of corners to Western but McClure and the corner defence were able to deal with these efforts. Halftime score 2-1 to Kelburne. Western came out in the second half fighting and piled on the pressure. They created a number of clear chances. Kelburne we able to weather the storm but struggling to keep any meaningful possession in the Western half. Despite this they had a golden chance to make it 3-1 but Halliday was unable to get the ball past the imposing Western's keeper. Western's pressure paid off when they were able to squeeze in a rebound from a short corner. 3rd Quarter finished 2-2.

Kelburne so far had given a good account of themselves but the forth quarter would see them unravel. The score at the end of the game would be 7-2. This was a result of a number of corner variations by Western and poor decisions from a tired Kelburne. The team would come away frustrated at having such a poor forth quarter and squandering a number of chances. The team will be keen to earn some redemption this double header weekend. Saturday sees a return to Glasgow Green to play Watsonsions at 1.30pm and Sunday the team travels to Tayside to play Dundee Wanderers at 12pm, Dalnacraig.

Kelburne Ladies' 1s Beat Highland HC 2-0

13.10.19 ..On Sunday Kelburne Ladies 1st XI hosted Highland HC in the Scottish cup. Boasting the same young squad from Saturday’s league, the team gelled quickly and looked lively from the onset. Kelburne retained possession well in the opening spell with midfielders Morven McEwan and Jessica McKenzie finding lots of space on the wings. Forwards Megan Ralph and Dalia Stewart similarly created lots of opportunities with their speed and direct running. Just before half time, Kelburne converted a corner, D’Arcey Campbell’s strike rebounded from the keeper and Frances Strain’s forceful strike found the bottom left corner. Controversially the goal was disallowed as umpires felt the initial ball had not left the circle. The score then stood 0-0 at half time. The second half saw much of the same dominant possession play from Kelburne. However their high press was countered on occasion. Jenna Brolly and Campbell read the play well to intercept most of these breaks. While keeper Emily Irvine was first to anything that made its way into the circle.

Kelburne’s tenacity paid off in the 60th minute. When great play down the left side of the pitch finished with Ralph’s lay off in the circle to player/coach Rachael Ewing-Day who calmly spun away from her defender and slotted the ball past the keeper. The game was mainly played in the Highland half for the remainder of the game with Freya Halliday, Rebecca Feeney and Aimee McGrane all supporting the attack from defence when necessary. A bursting run into the circle from Ambar Hendry claimed a corner in the 71st minute. Ewing-Day made sure of the stop on this occasion to set up a Campbell rocket onto the foot of a defender before lifting into the net. The game finished 2-0 to the Paisley team with Megan Ralph being awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for a dynamic and determined performance!

Kelburne Ladies' 1s vs Granite City..

On Saturday 12.10.19, the Ladies first XI hosted Granite City in National league two. The Kelburne squad handed their first XI debuts to four regular second XI players. Due to a number of players being unavailable Abbie Irvine, Freya Halliday, Aimee McGrane and Charley Austin all stepping up for their first experience of the National league. The game begun in glorious sunshine as dominant possession play saw the young side take the game to the travelling visitors. D’Arcy Campbell was instrumental in defence protected keeper Emily Irvine for the duration of the first half, ensuring that few balls made their way into the home teams circle. While in attack Megan Ralph and Dalia Stewart proved very difficult to defend, creating some excellent attacking plays. Some tenacious play saw Kelburne claim a series of corners Rachael Ewing-Day finding a foot in the circle and Jessica McKenzie calmly doing the same when faced with a rebounded shot. Unfortunately both shots failed to find the net and the score at half-time, a little disappointingly was 0-0. The second half saw Kelburne dominate possessions for long spells, both by transitioning around the back and finding long balls down the line. A highlight from this period came from a Austin pass down the line to Dalia Stewart, which was laid off into the path of Frances Strain who slipped past her defender to fire a ball across the circle, where Ralph’s first time shot narrowly missed the left hand post. Kelburne presses high in search of the opened. However a stack pass from a sixteen was intercepted and against the run of play Granite city found the opener. Despite another positive period by Kelburne the Aberdeen team found the net again within 10 minutes. The sun glare assisting a very average top Dee shot. Despite the game finishing 0-2 in favour of the visitors, Kelburne take lots of positives from the performance. The progress the young side have made and the individual performances, especially from the debutants, demonstrate that the future is bright. Most valuable player (MVP) was D’Arcy Campbell with special mention to Abbie Irvine for an exceptional debut.

Looking back.. Kelburne Men's 6s Near Miss vs Dumfries 2s

On 7.9.19 - The all new Kelburne 6th team started life with a game against Dunfries 2’s on a warm sunny September afternoon. The new squad included 10 debutants, 8 youngsters and 2 slightly less young! The Dumfries team included some experienced and strong players and they dominated the early exchanges. Kelburne survived the early play and started to play nice hockey with Ian McIntyre and Alex Austin exchanging passes on the left and Adam running nicely on the right. Dumfries eventually made their experience tell by sneaking in at the back post to score. Reece Nicholl had shown great confidence with some nice saves but were unluckily undone by a deflected shot for Dumfries’ second. 2-0 at half time. The Kelburne debutants were gaining confidence and some nice play left to Alan Bryce (not a debutant!) in space in the D to calmly slot it home to halve the deficit. Kelburne were chasing the game and pushing forward with Fraser Berry, Kyle Craig, Ben Moody and Ross Gillies moving nicely. Dumfries were always dangerous and quick on the break and scored a nice third. However, Kelburne’s heads remained high and they continued to drive forward. Long balls to Alan and the other forwards were working well, but with no final outcome. Some nice play led to several Kelburne corners, which led to good saves and goal line clearances. Andrew Jack who had excelled with the responsibilities of centre midfield scored with a magnificent reverse stick strike into the top left corner. All to play for in the final 10 minutes. The team’s confidence was increasing, and the youngsters were willing to run into space and receive the ball – Tom Hunt and Robert Philips were exchanging well down the right. However, despite the forward drive from Willie and debutant Paul Brown, Dumfries hung on for the win. An excellent first outing for the Kelburne 6th team, well done – onwards and upwards.

On the Way to Victory!

Kelburne Men's 4s vs Hillhead 4s

On Saturday 5.10.19 - Kelburne didn’t start the game well and found themselves down pretty early on. This set the tone for the first half as Hillhead put Kelburne under a lot of pressure and scored most of their goals during the first half. Kelburne was much better in the second half. They frustrated Hillhead by defending well and putting in much more effort as a team. Going forward Kelburne looked pretty good and created a lot of decent chances getting themselves a few short corners which was where they got their goals from. The first goal was scored by Shaun Jardine-Malone who put the ball in at the back post after a nice strike from the right side of the D. The second was scored by Kevin Fairbairn. His original shot was saved but the ball rebounded nicely back to him and he put it away with a nice strike. Final Score 2-7 to Hillhead.

The next game for the 4s is in the cup where they will play Grove Menzieshill 3s at home.

Kelburne Ladies' 3s Miss Out Against Glasgow Uni

After this Glasgow Uni scored the first goal and at half time it was 0-1. In the second half Kelburne came back with more determination and got a few more chances at scoring. They won another short corner but no result came from it. Kelburne continued to put pressure on Glasgow Uni but in the last 10 mins they scored two more goals. The final score was 0-3 but Kelburne played a strong game and the result did not reflect their play. Every player showed outstanding effort and well done to Lindsay Greenlees (MVP by opposition), Alyson Divers (MVP by team) and Esme Freeburn (workhorse). Very well done to all 3s players.

Kelburne Ladies' 2s Miss Out vs GHK

On Saturday 5.10.19 - A great defensive effort by kelburne ladies’ 2’s. A very even first half with chances for both sides. Early on GHK was awarded a penalty flick with keeper Lynne making an outstanding save. Unfortunately, just before half time, GHK scored a goal from open play after a lapse of concentration. Kelburne had many chances with GHK’s keeper being very difficult to beat. Early in the second half GHK scored again from a backpost deflection from a penalty corner where we were slow to react. Quickly after Kelburne scored from a counter attack, Jen Morgan passed the ball to Maddy Bower at the penalty spot who turned and scored. Immediately from the restart GHK scored from open play after kelburne didn’t react quick enough still enjoying their goal. After a brilliant game by both teams and many chances for both sides GHK won 3-1. Well done ladies!

Kelburne Men's 5s Lose to Giffnock 1s

On Saturday 5th October - Kelburne with only 12 players started off the game in a high pace. Both teams held the ball fairly equally all game. Giffnock with an extremely fast start scored their first goal roughly 5 minuites into the game due to kelburne not being able to react fast enough. Multiple other goals were scored by Giffnock due to mistakes in the kelburne D or fast turnovers. Kelburne had managed to comfortably get the ball into the opposition half and had many goal scoring opportunities. Near the end of the first half kelburne won 3 short corners. All corners were played well with Tommy pushing the ball to one of two castles. Some techniques used were slip left, straight hit and second castle. Unfortunately none of these were goals. As the second half began kelburnes ball pace and spirit increased. Again there were multiple opportunities for kelburne to score. All players agreed that everyone played very well on the second half . They had adapted to the technique of play Giffnock used and managing to hold the ball at the back for longer. Again giffnocks main goal scoring opportunities were from fast turnovers. Unfortunately they had scored their last few goals in the second half ending in kelburne being defeated 0-7. Everyone played very well and there were no disagreements between player and umpires other than 1 green card given to Aaron O'Hare. All round both teams played a very professional and fast paced game of hockey.

Edinburgh university managed to score 1 more, making the half time score 4:0. Kelburne started the second half more positively however Edinburgh manage to make it 5 through a short corner. Less than a minute later Edinburgh hit the post, they then went onto make it 7. Edinburgh university managed a final goal more before the final whistle. Kelburne Ladies' 2s Narrowly Miss a Win vs Edinburgh Cala HC

On Saturday 28.9.19 - the Kelburne ladies 2s played an away fixture against Edinburgh Cala hockey club at 1:30pm. The game started off with a push back from Edinburgh Cala, both teams fought hard to score the first goal, Kelburne was unlucky with an amazing attempt at goal being saved by the Cala keeper. Cala managed to gain possession up into Keburne’s defending half, their first attempt at goal was stopped by Elaine T, but unfortunately their second attempt reached the back of the goal. Kelburne didn’t get their heads down, they came back fighting and Jen Owen scored a fantastic goal after a lovely pass from Maddy Bower. Cala then received 2 short corners, both unsuccessful, but managed to score afterwards. Kelburne received a short, but unfortunately no result came from it, and the ball was turned over to Cala who then played the ball up the pitch and scored again. Kelburne came back fighting even harder in the second half, Morven McEwan scored a goal which was then disallowed, but was followed by a short to Kelburne with no result. The full time whistle blew and it was 3-2 to Cala. Both teams put in an outstanding effort, but Kelburne was unlucky not to take the win. Every Kelburne player gave it their all, but MVP was given to Freya Halliday who showed fantastic effort and commitment throughout the whole game.
